Flowers On A Friday - Bokeh Blossoms

This was a classic at Grandma Boss' cocktail parties. Well, I confess, hers didn't involve vegan cream cheese, but you get the idea. This transports me instantly back to the 1960's. Whatever happened to cocktail parties anyway?

Color Week - Shades of White

This is the final day of color week. I've had a great time, and I'd like to thank Curious Girl for sponsoring it. Today, we had the option of either featuring rainbow colors or shades of white. I believe I was the one that requested that white be one of the colors, or should I say non-colors, so that's what I'm doing. I love shades of white. If I didn't have pets, my house would be decorated in soft creamy shades of white. I love it. It seems like such a contradiction because my artwork is so colorful, I don't know, maybe that's why I like it, it's a place for my artist eye's to rest. Enjoy one of my favorites with me, white. More shades of white over here.

Here is some bold yellow and orange for you. It's funny, yellow is one of my least favorite colors, yet I had a ton of photos featuring yellow as the predominate color. Maybe I do like it?

Meatless Monday - Portobello Mushroom Sandwich

Trying out a new Meatless Monday format. Getting a little more creative with the presentation of the recipe. What do you think? I can't guarantee it will go this way every time, but I do like it better, so I will give it a try.

This weeks tib bit - In Sweden, food labels are required to list the amount of carbon dioxide emitted for any food item's production. Since soy is often imported, from the Amazon (where trees are cut down to make room for soy production), to feed cattle, that means that a traditional burger can have a mighty big eco footprint. So why not give the mushroom a try? I think that labeling that reflects this information is a great idea. I know I would be interested, and it would probably alter my purchases at the market, how about yours?

Very few posts have happened this week. I'm just not feeling great. Not quite all-out sick, but definitely on the edge. The pollen counts here are out of control and that might be it, but the bottom line, whatever the cause, I just feel droopy and sleepy. Hopefully, I'll be back to tip-top energy soon with lots of new and exciting stories and pictures to share. Until then, I'm going to take another nap.

The last few days the weather here has been a bit on the blustery side. I have a poor little tree that is nearly napping on the ground. It was freezing cold last night, but this morning the sun is shining. The pets are taking full advantage of the sunshine. Carpe cat-em, seize the windowsill.

I also wanted to take this opportunity to give a shout-out to my baby sister. Meg, and her cat Fin, have written a book called Housecat Confidential, and after a long and challenging journey it is done, published, and available on Amazon. I am so proud of her! Now for the shameless plug, It's a great and wonderful book, filled with stuff to make you cry, giggle, and touch your heart. Any cat-person would love this book. I wish you great success Megger.

I finally found the courage to paint something in that pretty little journal, that I created at Journalfest, in Stephanie Lee's class. It was the classic big white page syndrome. It was so pretty already, I didn't want to "mess it up". This is so unlike me, I usually just dive right in, but not this time. That little book had been sitting there empty since October. It was time. Yesterday, I was gilding something, and I thought while I'm at it I'll add some copper leaf to the edge of some pages in the journal. It looked great, was painless, and helped to get me over the white page hump. Thank goodness!

Meatless Monday - Spring Asparagus

Here's another non-recipe recipe. I know I do this a lot, but isn't this the way most of us really cook? Combining some great ingredients, taste, and adjust. Here are the basics.

Spring Asparagus

1 bunch asparagus
Tahini, about a Tablespoon (I prefer to use raw)
A light squeeze of lemon juice
Earth Balance Margarine, about a teaspoon
Dill, dry or fresh, a generous amount
Salt and pepper

Trim the tough ends off the asparagus. Cut the spears into thirds. Cook in gently boiling water until tender. Drain. While warm, toss with the remaining ingredients. Taste, and adjust flavors.

Tib bit time. Did you know that tahini is a great source of calcium, iron, and vitamin B?

Pulling Prints

This month, Michelle Ward has a crusade challenge to pull prints (please see Michelle's post for the details about the technique). I decided to take part, even though when I've done it in the past it hasn't been my favorite technique. I feel like my results are a bit uninspiring. Since it always seems like something I should like, I decided to take on the challenge and see if I could come up with something wonderful this time. The first prints were OK.

Again, I thought my results were just OK. After that, as I was photographing the results, for this post, and I decided to play some more. I took them into Photoshop and layered a few of them together, and came up with this.

Getting better. Then I thought Id' try layering a few together, as a background. Here's the result.

What do you think? I'm happy that I took part in the crusade, and I finally feel like I'm embracing pulling prints.
